Glasses with Coloured Filters for Visual Stress SUN SMITH
Visual stress (also known as Meares-Irlen Syndrome, Irlen Syndrome or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome) is a perceptual processing disorder that increases an individual’s sensitivity to light. It may affect up to 14% of the population. Research suggests that visual stress is also commonly comorbid with dyslexia (as well as autism, ADHD, and brain trauma). Dyslexia has a multifactorial aetiology and the main causal factor is believed to be a phonological deficit, but some dyslexic individuals have co-occurring visual problems and visual symptoms. Coloured filters may alleviate visual stress or help to treat visual symptoms associated with dyslexia.
